Western School Board Technology: Tech Tip #228: How Different ...

Have you ever created a wonderful handout for your class, emailed it to work to be printed, only to discover the fonts have changed and the carefully designed layout you created is no longer the same?

Here are some helpful tips to save you this grief:

Fonts?

...are actually derived from the computer you are using when creating a document. ?If they are not installed on the computer you want to print from, the computer will substitute another font in it's place.

Solutions:
1. ?There is a core group of fonts which are installed on all computers which you can depend on. ?They are:

  • Arial
  • Comic Sans
  • Courier New
  • Georgia
  • Impact
  • Tahoma
  • Times New Roman
  • Trebuchet MS
  • Verdana
2. ?If you absolutely cannot live without the font, consider publishing your document as a .pdf before sending it to be printed. ?But you want to be 100% sure that you no longer wish to edit it.

Margins

Minimum margin widths are determined by your printer. ?

Solutions:

1. ?It is best to stick with the default width in your editor as it meets all printer requirements.
